We have a new program this summer! This spring, we had very few leatherback nests laid on our beach and as a result, our usual Hatchling Watch Program is becoming the Sandy Point Sunset Watch program. During the visit, your group will start the evening with a short video on the Leatherback Project at the refuge office followed by a trip out to the beach. Participants will have the opportunity to observe all the beauty of Sandy Point at sunset. This may include seeing nesting sea turtle tracks in the sand, green turtles popping up for air in the nearshore, frolicking dolphins, shorebirds on the beach, a possible green flash and there is still a chance of seeing some leatherback sea turtle hatchlings!

Sandy Point Sunset Watch will be available to both youth, adult and community groups (with priority given to children and youth groups). Group size has been designated as 12-15 (with children groups requiring 3 of the 15 participants to be adult chaperones). We accept applications from the following group types:

- Virgin Islands public or private school (or after school extracurricular program i.e., band, sport, etc.)
- St. Croix hosted summer camp or day program
- Boy and Girl Scouts of the Virgin Islands
- VI families groups
- VI Homeschool groups
- Virgin Islands groups with large community membership (e.g., church)
- Groups with an environmental charter in the VI
- Non-profit organization acting on St. Croix
