2024 8th Grade Program Agreement
Admission Guidelines
All program registrants will be reviewed by a committee consisting of the Lower School Director, Eighth Grade Faculty and Counselor, and Global Learning Coordinator. CAIS may include other interested parties, including the Head of School, Chinese Program Director, Auxiliary Program Director, or Health Aide. A student with behavioral issues as identified with school disciplinary violations may not be allowed to participate in the program. In addition, CAIS may require all outstanding balances to be paid prior to departure. The committee reserves the right to make all final decisions regarding a student's participation in the exchange program.

Supervision
CAIS faculty/staff chaperones will provide supervision and care for the students during their trip abroad. CAIS students may also be placed under direct supervision of CLI program staff, teachers, or host parents.

Program Participation
Except when advised by chaperone team, CAIS students are expected to participate in all program activities provided by the chaperone team, CLI and/or host school. Both during and after the trip, students may be asked to complete program-related projects or assignments. Chinese American International School reserves the final authority in addressing any behavioral issues and may send students home at their parents’ expense at any time.

Host Family Assignments
Chinese American International School reserves the final authority in assigning host families to CAIS student participants. CAIS trip chaperones and the Global Learning Coordinator will make every effort to resolve issues resulting from host family assignment and, in extreme cases, will arrange for the student to be placed with a new host family.

Parent Involvement
Parents may not participate in any portion of the trip. CAIS students and chaperones are expected to depart from and return to San Francisco together. Exceptions will only be considered if a written request is received.

Program Fee
The program fee is $4,960, which includes airfare, meals, local transportation, cultural excursions, instructor fees, and materials. The program fee does not include the travel visa application fee, for students who require it. Fees may be submitted via this link. Completed registration forms and a nonrefundable deposit of $1,500 are due by Friday, November 17, 2023 to the Business Office. Program fee balances are due by February 1, 2024, and are nonrefundable after that date.

Program Withdrawal
Families may choose to purchase travel insurance to cover costs CAIS has incurred on behalf of a student in the event of an unexpected need to withdraw registration and recover all or part of the program fee. Many insurance companies offer travel insurance for trip cancellation.

Passport
Students must obtain or renew their own passports with expiration dates on or after October 5, 2024.
