An online workshop for prospective postgraduate research students from minoritised groups or underrepresented backgrounds in Physical Geography, Earth and Environmental Sciences (GEES) and related subjects, with advice on applying for a UK PhDThis online workshop aims to broaden participation in postgraduate research in GEES disciplines, particularly among UK-domiciled students.

Please confirm you are eligible to apply for a NERC studentship in the area of Physical Geography, Earth and Environmental Sciences (GEES) and related subjects. UK students who have been ordinarily resident in the UK for at least three years will be eligible for a full studentship (covering fees and including the doctoral stipend). A limited number of international studentships (covering fees and including the doctoral stipend) are available.

Please confirm you are eligible to attend the workshop (i.e. you are from one or more minoritised groups or underrepresented backgrounds in GEES and related disciplines, for example Black, Asian and minority ethnic applicants, disabled applicants, LGBTQ+ applicants, and those from low-income backgrounds or who are first-generation students). This workshop is particularly aimed at UK-domiciled students.

What degree course are you currently studying for (or, if no longer a student, what is the last degree course that you completed)? *

A limited number of £50 bursaries are available to participants. Please let us know if you would like to receive a bursary. This is intended to offset the cost of attendance, and can be used towards covering childcare, other caring costs, internet access, travel to a quiet location to participate in the event, loss of wages while participating, etc. This bursary will be paid after the workshop upon receipt of proof of attendance (e.g. submission of feedback). *Please note that you must also have a UK bank account to receive the bursary payment.
