Question Form - Tauranga City Council Special Local Body Elections  - Tauranga City Council
We welcome you to submit questions for your Tauranga City Council Special Local Body Elections  - Tauranga City Council

The submission of questions closes seven days before your ward/mayoral show so that our Questions Committee can review the questions received and choose 28 questions for the 28 numbered boxes. In the first half of the show candidates choose a box number and answers the question in that box (1 minute).

In the second half, three hard-hitting questions are chosen which are relevant to the electorate so that every candidate has an opportunity to answer (1 minute).

Question Code of Conduct - please DO NOT submit questions that:

*      Are directed at a particular candidate
*      Is an attack on a particular political party or electoral candidate
*      Involves racism, voter suppression, and misinformation
*      DO NOT comply with NZ Law such as the New Zealand Bill of Rights 1990
*      Request actions that are politically corrupt
*      Question regarding financial figures will be fact checked against the pre-election report before being             approved

The Questions Committee

The Questions Committee will ensure that every candidate receives the Question Response Sheet of questions 24 hours prior to the show so they can prepare their answers for each question. Questions will be publicly available on the 'It's in the Ballot' website one day prior to the show.

The Questions Committee is made up of 4 members. When the Questions Committee meets to choose questions for an electorate, all members must declare if they are an enrolled voter for that electorate. They will participate in the deliberations, but they will not be included in the decision-making process of choosing the questions for that particular show.

All questions are anonymous, the submitter's details are confidential, and decisions made by the Questions Committee are final.

Mix and mingle with candidates

All candidates have been invited to mix and mingle 30 minutes before the shows begins and for 30 minutes after the show. This is an opportunity where you can ask a specific question to a candidate.

We ask that all meeting attendees treat all candidates respectfully and keep to their role of asking questions of candidates as opposed to comment, critique and debate. All candidates contact details are on our website so you can make contact with them after the show to have your say.

Our aim is to create an entertaining community-led awareness and participation initiative to encourage voters to ask the questions of our elected members, so they become aware of the significant Council and community issues.

Whether you attend our in-studio and online event, we hope you find this format informative. If you miss your electorate show, it will be downloaded to our YouTube channel the following day.

If you enjoy the show, please share the YouTube video with your friends and whanau.

Kind Regards
Questions Committee
