Hungry for Conversation: Bannock & Bakes Registration
DATE: POSTPONED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE
TIME: 6 - 9 PM (Doors at 5:30)
LOCATION: Broadway Youth Resource Centre, 2455 Fraser Street (Broadway & Fraser)

Bannock, Bakes, and many other breads are often considered “struggle meals” as they are filling and affordable foods. While celebrated by their hosting cultures, these foods are also stigmatized by others.

Join Check Your Head for an evening of baking, facilitated conversation and snacking! In this interactive, hands-on cooking event, we aim to unpack the similar ways cultures have used food as a tool for resilience and community building in the face of colonization.

This is a Black and Indigenous youth-only event. Black & Indigenous communities face distinct systemic state violence in a colonial settler state like Canada. With the intention of equity, Check Your Head is intentional about supporting Black & Indigenous youth leadership in reclaiming power & space and honouring Black & Indigenous only spaces on their own terms.
