The Alberta Public Interest Research Group (APIRG) is a student-run, student-funded non-profit based at the University of Alberta that upholds an anti-oppressive mandate, meaning that we analyze the structures that underlie inequity in our communities and seek grassroots solutions to build a better world.
This event is part of A Week of Liberation (AWOL). AWOL is APIRG's back to school event series running from September 18th-22nd centered around building community, knowledge and power for social change. Visit

Disability Justice: Clean Air and Pandemic Mitigation Tools
Wednesday, September 20th
6:00pm-8:30pm (drop-in and hybrid)
ECHA 1-490
Edmonton Clinic Health Academy (ECHA)
11405 87 Ave NW
Join Shafir Walji & Wen Chan from the Clean Air Community Action Group, an APIRG Working Group, for a discussion on aerosols and indoor air quality and a roundtable conversation on the politics of public health and disability during the COVID-19 pandemic, learn some basics about how respiratory viruses can be spread through aerosols and what can be done to mitigate the spread, followed by a hands-on workshop to learn how to build a Corsi-Rosenthal box (a do-it-yourself air purifier)! We will make different versions together that are customizable to fit your space needs. You can keep your CR-box after the event or ask us to donate it :)
***This workshop will be hybrid and all supplies will be provided! A Zoom link will be sent to you closer to the event date.
We have a limited amount of supplies for the air purifiers, and the supplies will be distributed on a first come first serve basis. APIRG can do curb side pick up from their office for those who want to pick up the supplies and follow along at home. Please email outreach@apirg.org if you would like to pick up the supplies. If there are additional barriers, please let us know and we will do our best to make this event as accessible as possible for you.
If you are attending in person, masking will be requested. We will provide N95s if you do not have a mask with you. Transporting a CR-box can be difficult without access to a vehicle. If you are needing assistance with transporting the box, please let us know and we can arrange to drop it off at your preferred location.
