DreamBuilders is working with Arc of Howard County to renovate a group home for developmentally and cognitively challenged individuals, so they can have choice and control over all aspects of their lives--including where they work, live, and spend their time.
The project this year involves renovating a kitchen at one of the ARC houses. Specifically the project would include:
kitchen cabinet demo and removal
removing wall between kitchen and adjacent room (not load bearing)
removal of wall between adjacent room and dining room (load bearing and would require building a new header)
painting
If needed, a follow on work day for this project is planned for Saturday, October 26. We will be completing all outstanding tasks left after the first work day.
The work day will begin at 8:30 AM and continue until 4:00 PM. We are asking each volunteer to contribute $10.00 to help cover the cost of the materials. (DreamBuilders will cover any amount over the total donations.) No skills are required, but a few skilled do-it-yourselfers would be appreciated. We can support up to 12 missioners.
You will receive an email by October 3 with directions and tools needed as well as a liability waiver that must be signed by volunteer and parent (for all volunteers under 18). To get you started, tools should include - tool belt, hammer, safety glasses, square, pencil and tape measure. If you sign up and then can not attend, please let us know ASAP so someone else can go in your place. Contact Brian Rezac (
