Elective Classes- An in class course geared towards an interest in the arts and creative expression.
Tech:
This class is intended for scholars who enjoy computers and desire to learn more about current & future technologies, coding, technology careers, web/data programming and various skills. Scholars should be prepared to work independently & with groups during this class. In addition, scholars will be asked to develop and present content for a final grade at the conclusion of each semester. This is a graded class.
Art:
This class is intended for scholars who wish to learn about different types of art techniques, who may not know how to draw , would like to learn how to better their skill sets, and those who would like to learn more about art history, to include local artist. This class will conclude with an artist showcase, produced by YOU the scholar. This is a graded class.
Sports Fundamentals:
This class is intended for scholars who would like to learn the fundamentals of various sports and techniques. In addition, you will be active, develop strategies on building positive relationships, and learn about the body and other health related approaches .
Band:
This class is intended for scholars who desire to learn how to play an instrument, or for those who may already know how to play an instrument (this includes percussion instruments) . In order for a scholar to be considered for the Akili Marching Gators (scholars who participate in Mardi Gras), they must consistently & successfully be active in this class. This class will cover music theory, practice habits, and will conclude with a performance in the Fall and Spring. Scholars enrolled in this class WILL have to perform and be graded accordingly. This is a graded class.
Yearbook:
This class is designed to develop students’ skills in yearbook production by providing experiences in selected aspects of yearbook production. It is intended for those who enjoy working on projects individually and in groups. Scholars will learn basic principals of yearbook production and develop skills that include writing copy, captions and headlines; digital photography; desktop publishing, creating and managing deadlines, and using appropriate technology tools for media production.
Music Technology:
This class is intended for scholars who would like to learn the fundamentals of using software and hardware tools for producing music . In this class you will explore various aspects of music production, careers in the music industry, and enjoy opportunities to interact with other creatives in developing your own beats.

Digital Media:
This class is intended for scholars who are interested in learning about video storytelling, graphic design, and animation. Scholars will work individually, as well as collaboratively in various medias to bring visions to life. You will also have an opportunity to tap into your creative side to create digital art and make it come alive. The class will conclude with a digital production presented at our showcase, presented by you.
