Submit Applications for the OHBM 2024              Brain Mappers of Tomorrow Event

The scientists of today meet the scientists of tomorrow!

We are excited to organize our 5th annual Brain Mappers of Tomorrow (formerly Multilingual Kids Live Review) in 2024!  We will host sessions in various languages to connect the scientists from OHBM to children (8-15 years old) all over the world. OHBM 2024 Diversity and Inclusivity Committee (DIC) is now accepting applications for volunteers to get involved in this event!
Each language session requires at least 2 moderators and 1 presenter who can speak the language for that event. Last year we had presentations in English, French, German, Greek (Ελληνικά), Italian, Japanese, Korean (한국어), Mandarin, Marathi, Portuguese (Português), Spanish, and Traditional Chinese (Taiwan). This year we are seeking participants in even more languages!

The main objective of this presentation is to have children learn about your scientific work and get them excited about science and the brain. A secondary (optional) add-on is to write a publication for children to review and then be published in Frontiers for Young Minds. See submission details Here. Again, presenter(s) are encouraged to submit an article after this event, but this is not mandatory to participate.
If you would like to volunteer to present or moderate a session, please fill out the appropriate language, contact information, and desired format of your session, etc.

Q. What types of format are accepted?
  1. Virtual session format:
Similar to the events in 2022 and 2023, there will be one-hour live session on zoom (or other equivalent tool) for each language. The session will start with ~20 min of presentation followed by a ~40 min of Question & Answer period.
  2. In-person session format:
There will be one-hour live session in the classroom (or other equivalent space) in their local area. Children will be accompanied by their parents or teachers in their classroom. The session will start with ~20 min of presentation followed by a ~40 min of Question & Answer period.
  3. Both:
You can have an in-person session with live-streaming on Zoom (or other equivalent tool).
While these are recommended structure for your 1-hour event, you can revise your program to add other creative activities, such as memory game, art-craft or realistic experiment.

Q. When will be the event taking place?

The live sessions will take place before the 2024 OHBM annual meeting (June 23 - June 27, 2024), while school is in session, ideally between May and June. The organizers will need to determine the specific date and time to meet the needs for local attendees.

Q. What is expected of organizers in each language session?

The presenters are responsible for preparing a presentation about their research. The moderators are responsible for inviting teachers/parents/children and organizing the date, time, and location of the event in each language. Our DIC members have many year's experience with this type of event and will help you in preparing materials for your audience.

Q. What language sessions have been organized previously?
  • In 2023: English, French, German, Greek (Ελληνικά), Italian, Japanese, Korean (한국어), Mandarin, Marathi, Portuguese (Português), Spanish, and Traditional Chinese (Taiwan) (check out PLAYLIST Link)

  • In 2022: English, French, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Mandarin, Portuguese, Spanish (check out PLAYLIST Link)
