Our work: To support our congregation in continuing to become a community that reflects the full racial diversity of our greater East Bay Jewish community, in which people of all racial identities feel welcomed and fully integrated into our congregation, in both membership and leadership roles. We will do this by working intentionally to improve the experience of belonging of people of all racial backgrounds who engage with our congregation. We will engage through a process of cheshbon ha’nefesh (literally, ‘an accounting of the soul’), reflecting on our individual experiences with racism, both at the communal/structural and personal levels. We know that this effort will sometimes be difficult, painful or uncomfortable. We are committed to supporting everyone in our community through this challenging and critical work towards truly realizing our congregation’s core value of being a kehillah kedoshah (sacred community).
