Zellweger's Secondary Math I Class Disclosure 2020-2021
Welcome to Secondary Math 1! I’m looking forward to a great year as we work together to develop important math skills. We will be doing quite a bit of discovery learning and problem solving to deepen understanding of mathematical concepts.

The most important rule for school is to show RESPECT to the teacher, other students, and yourself. The school rules are listed in the student folder received at registration, but here are a few to keep in mind:
Be on time and in your seat with your materials, ready to work
Keep your hands, feet, and objects to yourself. If it’s not yours don’t touch it.
Follow instructions the first time they are given
Stay in your seat.
Do your own work and turn it in on time.
No horseplay, hitting, throwing stuff at, or other physical contact. (safe school infractions)

Materials: Required EVERY day in class:
Pencil or Pen - if work is continuously messy or unreadable because of the use of a pen, I will require a pencil be used.
Binder - all class notes will be organized in a binder. This binder can be shared with other classes, but a section must be dedicated to my class for notes.
A scientific calculator/graphing calculator (some are available in class).

Homework:
Homework will be online through Canvas or through ALEKS.
Assigned daily and should be completed promptly.
If you are absent, you are responsible for learning and understanding the material on your own. You must get the notes from a friend or check your Canvas course and attempt the homework prior to coming in for help.

Tests and Quizzes:
Make-up exams are only given for excused absences.
Absent on review day- the exam will still be taken on the scheduled day.
Absent on exam day-The exam will be taken the next day you return to class.
Extended absence- make-up work must be completed within the same number of days that you were absent.
No retakes, pencils only, and no notes may be used on exams.
No questions will be answered on the day of the exam- review days/office hours are meant for these questions to be answered.

Grading Scale:
100%-93%=A ⭐  92%-90%=A- ⭐  89%-86%=B+ ⭐  85%-83%=B ⭐  80%-82%=B-⭐  79%-76%=C+ ⭐  75%-73%=C ⭐  72%-70%=C- ⭐  69%-66%=D+ ⭐  65%-63%=D ⭐  62%-60%=D- ⭐  Below 60%=F ⭐

Citizenship:
Citizenship grades reflect the students adherence to the rules, the effort put forth in the class, and the attitude of the student.
According to school policy 1-2 rule infractions will earn the student an S (satisfactory) citizenship grade.  3-4 infractions will result in an N (needs improvement) and more than 4 infractions is a U (unacceptable).
Cheating, truancies and safe school violations* will result in an automatic N or U as determined by myself.

*Please note that Safe School Policy infractions will be immediately referred to the administration.

Late Work:
Work that is turned in after the due date will receive a drop of 20%.
If the assignment is more than two weeks late it will only receive 50%.
Work assigned before midterms will not be accepted after the midterm cut off date set by the teacher.
Late work will be entered into the portal as the teacher has time to do so.

Cheating Policy:
Cheating on tests and quizzes is defined as viewing another student’s work, talking during a test period, helping another student on an exam, using unauthorized reference materials (cell phones or watches), or using unauthorized programs on your graphing calculator.
Cheating on homework is defined as copying another student’s work, turning in another student’s work, or giving your paper to another student.
Since our homework will be completed online, I will not be requiring work done on paper to be turned into me, but if cheating is suspected I may require work done for homework on paper to be turned in.
Students caught cheating will not receive credit for the activity in question.
