We are proud to be the first retailer and restaurant on the island of Ireland to be certified by the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC), with our sourcing of MSC-certified sustainably sourced cod, haddock and hake a conscious effort to protect our marine ecosystems and allow these stocks to recover in our local seas.
We offer our Kids Club programme on seafood sustainability free to Primary 7 schoolchildren in the local community. We bring schoolchildren on a trip to the local fish market to teach them about different fish and shellfish species and the importance of sustainable fish stocks, as well as an interactive workshop at the restaurant to learn how sustainable fishing provides a better, more secure livelihood for our fishing communities.
Fish City was the first NI business to take the Sustainable Fish Cities pledge, an environmental campaign led by Ulster Wildlife and Nourish NI.

To support the global effort to reduce the use of single-use plastics, we only use biodegradable straws and takeaway cutlery, as well as recycled paper products for takeaway packaging. Also, we serve glass bottled beverages only in restaurant and for takeaway.

We serve glass bottled still and sparkling water from the ethical water supplier Clearer Water, a local social enterprise based in nearby Larne that champions a mixed ability workforce, providing training and career development for additional needs and socially disadvantaged young people. They are dedicated to manufacturing traceable, ethical products and inclusive working practices.
Our team do beach clean-ups in the local area to: reduce pollution, protect local marine life, remove rubbish and toxins, keep our beaches attractive for visitors, and to serve our local communities.
A member of the All-Ireland Pollinator Plan, we have pledged our rooftop garden and green spaces to supporting the island's native pollinators. Our outdoor planters on the Terrace include species of winter- and spring-flowering heather.
A member of Ulster Wildlife, we are committed to improving biodiversity both on- and off-site and maintain a rooftop garden with a no-mow area of wild grasses, hedging plants, native perennials, a bee hotel, and wren nest box.
We remain committed to continuous improvement and learning on our sustainability journey. In 2023, our team attended a research study trip sponsored by the Norwegian Seafood Council to learn about Norway's global leadership in seafood sustainability.
