We are accepting submissions for workshops and lectures at IGX 2023 –  the 10 year anniversary of our event! 

A core theme of IGX 2023 is exploring the influence of culture on martial arts – both past and present. Over the years, the study of HEMA has benefitted from exploring not only the technical sources but also understanding the culture of the practitioners themselves. So we’re looking for workshops and lectures that dive deeper than “Here’s how to fight with a longsword,” but also into how culture influenced the development of various historical martial arts.

Some questions we're curious about answering are, “What were the legal consequences of attacking and killing someone with a sword?”, “What kind of clothing and shoes did fencers use in the salle or at a duel?” Or even “What kind of nutrition might have been typically available for fencers of the age?” This isn’t an exhaustive list, but a starting point to get your brain going.

Sticking with the theme, we’re also looking for submissions on how we all should and can be contributing to the development of a healthy HEMA (and IGX) culture for years to come.

Please complete this form if you wish to present at IGX. Classes typically run in 90 min time blocks, and lectures are typically 1 hour. While we would love to give everyone the opportunity to teach, we have limited time and space, so submitting a workshop does not guarantee that it will be added to this year’s roster. This year especially we expect significant interest, so factoring the themes above into your proposal(s) will only help improve your odds of consideration. NOTE: We will consider only forms that are complete.

If you would like to be considered for more than one class, or you just have a few different options, there are additional fields for that. We will accept up to three class proposals per person. Please order them in terms of which class you would like to present the most (e.g., Presentation 1 is the one you are most excited about).

We will take proposals until June 1st. We will notify accepted instructors on a rolling basis, but aim to contact everyone regarding final decisions by July. That being said, it is NEVER TOO EARLY to let us know your interest!
