2024 NSF NCAR|UCAR|UCP Student Program Mentor Volunteer Form
Thank you for your interest in volunteering as a mentor! For 2024, student programs will be in-person, hybrid, and remote depending on the program. The goal of our student programs is to help guide mentees through research and professional development, while building their STEM community. The important roles mentors play are to help create an inclusive and welcoming environment for mentees of all backgrounds and experience levels, including promoting their growth and wellbeing within the field outside of research.

There will be an option to select internship programs in order of preference. We will do our best to match as many mentors with students; however, there is no guarantee everyone will be matched as a mentor. We will contact you in mid-to-late March, once we have selected and matched students with research projects and mentors. Please contact the respective program lead for the following programs:

🌟 NSF NCAR EdEC NESSI - Jerry Cyccone - cyccone@ucar.edu
🌟 NSF NCAR EOL SUPER - Joshua Carnes - jcarnes@ucar.edu
🌟 UCP SciEd NSF SOARS - Kadidia Thiero - thiero@ucar.edu

The below questions are for Lead Research and SOARS Research/Scientific Mentors only:
The majority of our programs run 11-weeks during the summer and support undergraduate and graduate students. Please consider this time frame when designing a research project and education experience for your prospective student. This will ensure that program deliverables can be accomplished by the end of the program. Also as a reminder, our mission is to support mentees holistically with their research, professional development, and community building within the STEM fields.
Will you be the only Research Mentor for your project?
Clear selection
If no, please list co-Research Mentors, including lab, program, agency, or division:
Mentor teams can be an effective way to mentor students and can also help lessen the workload over the summer. Are you open to working in a mentor team, if not already?
