Q3: Option Selection (2023-24)
At ECVS, junior high students participate in complimentary courses or commonly referred to options. You will be placed in a new option every quarter, for a total of 4 options this year.  You will not be permitted to take the same option twice. 

Options will run at the following times each week:

Thursday - Grade 8s: Blocks 4 and 5

Please read through the following option descriptions that will be offered at ECVS during QUARTER 2. Select your top THREE choices from the options list. Please note that course fees have been included in the descriptions.

CTF Course Descriptions:

Canadian Politics: Welcome to Canadian Politics! This course delves into the intricate landscape of Canada's parliamentary system, exploring the roles, structures, and expectations that shape the nation's political framework. Through an engaging, debate-based approach, students will analyze and discuss key political issues, fostering critical thinking and honing persuasive communication skills. From understanding the intricacies of parliamentary functions to navigating the dynamics of Canadian governance, this class offers a hands-on exploration of the political landscape, empowering students to comprehend, critique, and actively participate in the democratic process. This course will have a $10 fee per student.

Driver's Ed Prep: This option is geared towards students turning 14 this year that want a head start on studying for their learners license exam. This option will cover the knowledge needed for the Learner's License Exam, as well as some general roadside skills and guidelines needed once they hit the open road of driving. If there is extra time we may DIVE into the boaters course as well for those wanting to take that test

Food Science: This course is designed for someone that has taken Foods before and is ready to create some healthy savory entré style dishes. These dishes would prepare you to cook at home for your family or in your future. This course has a $30 Fee. 

Photography: Unleash your creativity with micro-photography, bubbles, perspective, and vibrant color pops. From capturing unseen wonders through macro lenses to making colors burst off the frame, explore the magic of visual storytelling. Master the art of perspective, experimenting with angles and composition, and dive into the whimsical world of bubbles, creating dreamlike photographs. This course will have a $10 fee per student.

STEM Challenges: This course option will be a series of challenges that students will need to be creative, problem-solve, and work as a team. STEM Challenges will encourage students to develop a critical sense of wonder and curiosity about scientific and technological endeavors. This will provide students with a foundation in science that creates opportunities for them to pursue higher levels of study, prepares them for science-related occupations, and engages them in science-related hobbies appropriate to their interests and abilities.

Woods: Students will learn the tools, techniques, and materials of the wood shop, with an emphasis on safety, through hands-on learning. Students will learn to use major power tools through the design and construction of a shelf, and time permitting a CO2 dragster. This course will have a $40 fee per student.
