Acacia Valley Celebration & Hike - Registration
Join the Nature Trust in exploring the Acacia Valley Trail System, on Nature Trust protected land! The forest here includes trees that are over 150-200 years old. As we hike the single-track trails, we will learn about forest ecology and the history of the Nature Trust's recently protected property here. We will follow along a small, photogenic brook traversed by several small bridges, encounter interpretive panels along the trail, and find "Picnic Rock," a locally well-known very large granite boulder.

We will lead two groups on guided hikes, as the size of each group is limited. We will also host a meet and greet to get to know the Nature Trust (and each other!) and enjoy some light refreshments together. Everyone is welcome to join the meet and greet, whether or not you also wish to join one of the hiking groups. Note that the hikes require advance registration, but the meet and greet does not.

DATE: Saturday, June 22nd, 2024
In the event that the hikes are postponed or cancelled, you will be notified by email and we will update the information on our website. Please check before heading out on the day of the hike.

TIME: Meet & Greet with the Nature Trust: 1-3pm (with a brief presentation at 1:30pm)
We will offer two hikes, at 10am and 3pm.

DESCRIPTION: The Acacia Valley trail is generally considered to be a moderately challenging route, with many roots and rocks to navigate over, and some consistently wet sections along the trail. Hikers will need to walk in a single file.

DESTINATION: Map of the Acacia Valley Trail System.
  • 10am Hike: For the 10am hike, meet at 10am at the trailhead (155 Mill Road, Hillgrove)
  • Meet and Greet: Hill Grove Baptist Church (3301 Ridge Road, Acaciaville, Nova Scotia, B0V 1A0)
  • 3pm Hike: For the 3pm hike, check in between 1-2:30pm at Hill Grove Baptist Church
DISTANCE: Varies from 2.5km to 3km. Duration is approximately 2 hours, but distance and duration may vary depending on the interests and capabilities of the group.

OTHER RECOMMENDATIONS: If you have a hiking pole of some kind it would be good to bring it along to provide a third point of contact, and it is recommended to wear sturdy shoes or boots which offer a good grip. Bring water and weather appropriate attire.

DEADLINE FOR REGISTRATION: Friday, June 14th, 2024.
Registration is required for the hikes, as each hiking group will be limited to 20 people on a first-come basis. If you plan to attend only the meet and greet, you do not need to register.
