DEADLINE TO RESPOND: Friday, July 1st, 2022


Summary: Plan and facilitate an enriching activity for 10-25 students.

Commitment: One or multiple hour-long sessions, which will be offered Tuesdays-Thursdays

Dates: July 19th-August 19th, Tuesdays-Thursdays, mid-day (11:30-1 or so)

Responsibilities:
• Plan a fun and educational elective activity to supplement classroom learning and build community. Examples: Basketball, group games, woodworking, ribbon twirling, music, nature walk, juggling, etc. The sky’s the limit!
• 1-2 adults will likely be available to help out, but it is recommended that elective leaders recruit additional facilitation support if they feel their activity requires it (all volunteers must complete onboarding process).
• Collect, set up, and clean up supplies needed.
• Attend virtual volunteer orientation: June 23rd, 6:30-8pm.

Guidelines for Planning an Activity:
• Choose something that YOU know about and are passionate about. This will be the most natural and fun!
• The best electives will be FUN and include a natural learning component. The more interactive, the better! Think outside the box in terms of "learning," and consider what will bring a smile to students' faces.
• Students will be able to choose which activity suits them each day, so attendance varies, but plan for up to 25 students K-8th. You'd be surprised how many activities are suited to such a large age range!
• Many students are still learning English, so activities that do not require advanced language skills to participate tend to be ideal.
• Plan something that can be modified somewhat based on attendance, age group, student interest, English level, etc. Stations that offer varied options is an easy way to differentiate, if you are unsure how to otherwise be flexible with your idea.
