Ocean Friendly Gardens are designed to mimic nature and restore resilient coasts and the natural water cycle by creating native habitat, conserving water, and reducing runoff that causes pollution at the beach and in our local waterways.

Conservation: Save water & create wildlife habitat

Native plants cover at least 50% of garden/yard

No invasive plants present

No turf grass, or kept to a minimum

All plants are climate-appropriate (rainfall keeps them healthy), unless edible

Hand watering or high efficiency irrigation system (drip, rotator sprinkler)

Automatic irrigation controller, if present, has a rain shut-off device
