Improving Group Classes - Survey
Note: This survey is to get your view on potential changes coming up. The current (Spring) semester and its concert on June 19th remain unchanged.

Who This Survey is For: Current & past group violin class students. Students who may be interested in taking group violin classes in the future.

In our last survey, I announced that exciting changes were coming as a part of opening our new location, and that I was planning on adding more class options as the year progressed. The year has progressed and I'm ready to improve on the group class calendar - with your input!

Every student is interested in different things, and since we have the space to do it, I'm considering offering a wider variety of classes. I think it would be fun to cycle through more material and come back to various songs and exercises from time to time (or keep the good ones going). We can have things around for shorter or longer depending on how the class is enjoying it. There is a staggering amount of material at the Late Beginner - Intermediate level, a lot of which is not even levels-based (but still highly beneficial to learn, fun to play and easy to pick up).

Part of the reason I have had defined group class semesters is that I saw other studios do it this way. But I'm no longer convinced this is the only way, or even the best way. Part of the reason private students make such great progress is that the lessons are continual and ongoing. Especially at NYC Violin Studio - I don't have a yearly tuition for private students because I don't think they need it. Usually we just keep doing lessons, they keep progressing and everyone is happy!

Summary:

My vision is that we would still hold regular concerts (about 3 per year) and as we get closer to those concerts, the teacher and students will decide what, amongst what they have been playing, they'll focus on more as the concert approaches (and of course the technique-focused classes need not perform).

Let me know if I'm on the right track or if I'm way off-base!

What best describes your playing level? *
What do you think of the ongoing group classes idea?
Poll: Which sounds better to you? Ongoing group classes or 8-week semesters 3-4x per year? *
If money were no issue (and considering your current schedule) how many classes would you have time to attend every week? *
Assuming you were interested in the class material, of course.
How many of these classes would you have time to attend in person? *
How many of these classes would you have time to attend ADDITIONALLY online? *
Could you attend extra classes each week if you attended one or more of them online as a convenience?
A lot of adults have trouble finding time to practice all week, and do well when attending 2x/week. What might incentivize you to attend that often?
E.g. price reduction, shorter classes, online option, less homework, no homework, no performance involved, easier material, etc. If you already attend 2x/week (or more), tell me why you already opted for such an excellent decision.
If group classes were 30 or 45 minutes back-to-back, with two separate topics, songs or genres (e.g. 6:30 - 7:15 Technique, 7:30-8:15 Play Classical Music), so that you can choose exactly what you'd like to do, might that interest you?
On a scale of 1-5, how important is it to you that the rest of your class is the same playing level as you? *
Many technique exercises, scales, etudes and even pieces actually fit a wide variety of playing levels from Late Beginner - Intermediate.
1 - not important
5 - extremely important
What pay frequency would you prefer? *
Current students: would you prefer an email with links to the Song Library or maintain the status quo - going in and checking the Homework page on your own?
You made it to the end, nice job. (And thank you!) Is there anything else you would like to say? This is a great place to jot down what you'd be interested in learning or ideas on the group class calendar.
Your feedback is really important to me!
