The ST. CHARLES School District provides devices to students for use in their student learning environment.
For students in grades K-6, the devices are maintained and stored continually within the District’s campuses.
(In the event of a distance learning environment, devices will be provided for home use for all K-6 students as
well; however, this protection plan only applies to and is required for students in grades 7-12.)

For students in grades 7-12, the District may issue District-owned devices throughout the school year, both on
and off campus, similar to textbooks. However, with this permission is a responsibility for the student to care
for these devices at all times. This includes recovery of the fees to repair or replace a device that is damaged,
lost, stolen, or vandalized. Because repairs of devices can be quite expensive, the District is providing options
for the student and family to protect against unexpected fees.

General Guidelines for devices:
• Devices/accessories that are not operating as intended will be repaired or replaced at ST. CHARLES’
expense.
• Devices that have damage (for example, a cracked screen) must be brought to the Technology
Department as soon as the damage occurs. Violation of this requirement may raise the repair cost for the
device that you would have to cover. Families may not attempt to repair or replace devices on their own.
• During the time period for the repair of a device, ST. CHARLES will typically provide a loaner device
for use by the student.
• A police report must be filed in the event of the theft of a device and a copy made available to the District.
• The District has sole authority to determine any and all replacement costs and fees due to vandalism,
intentional damage, theft, and lost devices/cases/cords/chargers.
• If vandalism, intentional damage, theft, or lost device does occur, the District reserves the right to
require students to check in/out the device daily. Families are responsible to pay for any
replacement/repair costs before a student is permitted to bring the device home.
• Devices are returned at the end of each school year or upon withdrawal of the student from the District.
The student will be reissued a device at the beginning of the next school year.

repairing/replacing devices and accessories, when not covered by a Protection Plan
agreement.

Options for device Protection…Choose ONE of the following (required for each student in Grades 7-12):
_________I elect to utilize the District Annual Protection Plan Premium with Deductible:
Plan Premium: $35 non-refundable annual fee
Plan Deductible: • 1st device repair is covered under the protection plan.
• 2nd device repair will be charged a $50 fee.
• 3rd and subsequent repairs will be charged the price of the repair. (Repair
costs are determined by our device repair company.)
• The deductible plan does not apply to devices lost, stolen, or damaged
due to vandalism or intentional damage.

__________I elect to waive my option to participate in the District's device Protection Plan. I understand that I
assume full responsibility for all repair and replacement costs as determined by the District.
