The Financial Aid Process Presentation (45 minutes – 1-hour presentation): This session is specifically for EPIC Academy seniors. The presentation will outline the general financial aid process and provides insight on how financial aid works, how to apply for it, student eligibility, and how it can be used to help pay for college. It introduces the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and the Alternative Application for Illinois Financial Aid, along with summarizing state and federal aid programs among other topics.

• Your 2020 federal tax returns, W-2’s, and other records of
money earned.
• Banking statements and records of investments
(if applicable).
• Records of untaxed income (if applicable).
• List of colleges you would like to attend.
Additional information you will need if you are
completing the FAFSA:
• Social Security Number. Be sure it is correct!
• Your Alien Registration Number, if you (student) are not a
U.S. citizen.
• An FSA ID to sign electronically. (This can be created
beforehand at fsaid.ed.gov, or at the time of application).

If you are a dependent student, you will report your
information and your parents' information.
If you are an independent student, you will only report your own
information (and, if you are married, your spouse's). Please visit
studentaid.ed.gov/sa/fafsa/filling-out/dependency for more
information.
Parents who do not have a Social Security Number and are
providing information in the parent section on the FAFSA must
enter 000-00-0000 on the FAFSA.

Information regarding the FREE RISE Alternative Application
The Retention of Illinois Students & Equity (RISE) Act allows eligible undocumented students and transgender students disqualified from federal financial aid due to failure to register for Selective Service (see Transgender Students area below for more explanation) to apply for all forms of state financial aid. The Alternative Application for Illinois Financial Aid provides a way for these qualified students to apply for Monetary Award Program (MAP) grants, the state's largest need-based grant program for low-income college students.
