On April 16, 2021, the Sciences Po Gender & Research seminar will welcome Shamus Khan, Professor of sociology and American studies at Princeton University and visiting professor at the Sciences Po Centre for European Studies and Comparative Politics.
Pr. Shamus Khan will present Sexual Citizens (WW Norton, 2020), the landmark study of Sex, Power, and Assault on Campus he led with Columbia colleague Jennifer S. Hirsch. Drawing on the Sexual Health Initiative to Foster Transformation (SHIFT) at Columbia University, the most comprehensive study of sexual assault on a campus to date, they present an entirely new framework that emphasizes sexual assault’s social roots—transcending current debates about consent, predators in a “hunting ground,” and the dangers of hooking up.
