Prof Louis Appleby heads up the Mental Health and Safety Centre at Manchester University and is also the director of the National Confidential Inquiry into Suicide and Safety in Mental Health.
He is the UK’s leading expert on suicide prevention and will be visiting North Kensington to speak to community groups and residents to listen to their views and find better ways of supporting them.
Louis Appleby has been asked to review the Suicide Prevention Strategy for Kensington and Chelsea and provide recommendations as there has been concern within the community around the suicide risk in people affected by the Grenfell Tower Fire.
To enable him to provide accurate recommendations he would like to hear concerns first hand from members of the community and local organisations.
The main things that Louis needs so that he can make accurate recommendations is to give everyone a chance to share their concerns about mental health in the area and to give their views on what they think would be helpful for their mental health- i.e. services, activities that could be more focused on for funding, what is missing.
Professor Appleby will attend 2 events on 10 October. He will be at the SPACE on 10 October 6.30pm to 8pm. Places are limited so please RSVP here
