By now you have most likely seen the communications from President Loh regarding the decision on not holding an in-person Commencement ceremony for Spring 2020, which aligns with the directives and guidance issued by state agencies and the University System of Maryland.  While canceling our in-person Spring 2020 Commencement Ceremony is a necessary precaution to safeguard the health of everyone in the Campus community and their families, it makes it no less of a disappointment to you, the students.

 For many of you, walking across the stage marks an important milestone, not just for you, but for your family and friends. We at the iSchool also treasure the traditions of Commencement and the opportunity to celebrate the accomplishments of our graduates.  Many of us have been working hard to plan this event and are dismayed that we will not be able to share this special day with you as originally planned.  Please know that one of the greatest joys of our staff and faculty is congratulating and celebrating YOU and your accomplishments, but that we are also committed to the health and safety of our community and committed to complying with the state mandates regarding this major health crisis.

President Loh has asked for members of the community to email him alternative and innovative ideas to recognize this occasion at the University level. Please know that the iSchool is also exploring ways to ensure that you, our Class of 2020, are recognized for your hard work and accomplishments in a meaningful, innovative, and safe way. As we explore alternative options to an in-person ceremony, please take a minute to complete THIS SURVEY.  Your input is important to us as we navigate this unprecedented situation and plan ways to celebrate this important milestone.
