Department of French - Honors Thesis | Declaration of Interest (2024-2025 Academic Year)
If you are interested in writing a thesis in the French Department, please complete this form by 4PM on Friday April 26, 2024.
The completion of this form is non-binding: you may change your mind about the specifics of your project or about pursuing a thesis more generally. The form is a preliminary step that
a) invites you to reflect on the material you have encountered in your classes or in other settings and which may serve as preparation -- in terms of context, content, and methodology-- for your thesis;
b) initiates a conversation with department faculty before the summer and provides an opportunity to receive feedback and guidance; and
c) ultimately allows you to make efficient use of the summer before the fall of senior year, when you will submit your proposal and, if approved, will work on your first chapter.

Prospective Topic(s).

Please identify and describe the general topics, works, or questions that you might explore in your thesis. You may present multiple ideas, but for each possible project, please include a list of relevant courses or experiences, within or outside of the French Department, that have prepared you to undertake each project.

Possible Advisor*.

Who is (or are) the faculty whose areas of teaching and research resonates most with your own prospective project? Please explain.

* Due to leave patterns in the department, it is not a guarantee that you will be able to work with the faculty member that you list. You are, however, encouraged to reach out to faculty if you are interested in writing a thesis with them. Even if they cannot supervise your work, they might be able to offer preliminary guidance.
