Like anything, each child will have their own experience in ID Sessions. Especially at the younger ages, feelings can change quickly, and it just may not be the right time or environment for them. Some kids will love it and want more, while others will not. To be completely honest, this is the way it should be if we are truly allowing the kids to play as freely as possible.
A note- if you have an uber-competitive younger child, consider attending multiple sessions and introducing your child to coaches and team managers to get connected with the right team faster.
Soccer note- encourage your son or daughter to spend time with the ball around the house. Put a few mini balls and/or a size 2 futsal ball around the house and let them dribble it, manipulate it, and just get comfortable with it. Nothing forced... just a suggestion + a little encouragement. The key is for the kids to cherish the ball and hold it close rather than trying to kick it away.
Last thing- ID Sessions are about emphasizing play over competition. Kids will compete, naturally, but we want to encourage a playful nature in which the primary goal is having fun. This is all about developing fluency, i.e. learning the language of the game while developing one's own style. Remember that each child is running his/her own race :-)
