What is Color Guard?
Color guard is a mix of dance, equipment, flexibility, and athletics. We train our performers in all styles of dance and teach them to spin flag and other pieces of equipment. The color guard also performs pom routines in the stands at FHS Football games and during pep rallies!

Since the FHS Color Guard is a competitive all-year activity, being a part of the team is a one-year commitment. It is a great way to make friends, get involved, and show school spirit! Team members are also eligible to earn all of their HS fine arts and PE credits, as well as a letterman during their high school career.

The Color Guard performs with the Marching Band as one competitive unit - The Pride of the Texas Hill Country! This is an award winning program with a long history of excellence. We are one of the most awarded performing arts groups in the state of Texas. We have a very exciting year planned for 2024-2025 and if you want to be a part of an award winning team, this is the team for you!

Who is eligible to tryout?

Tryout participants must currently be in grades 8 – 11, must be attending Fredericksburg HS in the Fall of 2024, and must have a GPA of 2.0 or higher.

Is any experience required to make the team?

While experience in dance is helpful, it is not at all required! We will teach you everything you need to know! We are looking for coachable, respectful students with good attitudes who are willing to learn! No prior experience is needed.

When are tryouts?

A tryout clinic will be hosted April 9-11, 2024 at the Elementary School Gym from 5:30-8:30PM.

April 9-10th we will learn all audition routines. April 11th will be a review day and mock audition, with full auditions taking place on April 12, 2024 starting at 5:30PM at the same location.

We will post audition results outside of the FES 800 gym immediately following auditions on April 12th, as well as on the band website (fbgisdband.com) and the Fredericksburg HS Color Guard Instagram page - fbgcolorguard

What should I wear?

April 9-11th

- Any dance attire (no baggy clothes or jeans)

- Appropriate footwear (jazz shoe, tennis shoe, etc. NO VANS/CONVERSE OR SNEAKERS)

- Hair must be pulled back and out of the face.

- No jewelry or gum allowed.

April 12th (Audition Day)

- All black Dance Attire (black shirt and black leggings or shorts are perfect.)

- Appropriate footwear (jazz shoes, etc.)

- Slicked back low pony tail or bun with center part (performance hair, not practice hair)

- Pretty Performance makeup (you just want to look your best!)

- No jewelry or gum allowed.

Immediately after all auditions have finished, a list of the applicants who have been selected will be posted outside the FES 800 gym and on the Fredericksburg HS Color Guard Instagram page - fbgcolorguard.
