The Collective Identity Mentoring is a new nonprofit organization based in Los Angeles. Our mission is to provide a psych-social safe space through group peer support and one-on-one mentoring for Black girls and their allies to express themselves and find support and more tools to put in their identity tool kit. We are currently accepting applications for our Abound program for youth 18-25.

Our missions focus on the nuanced experiences that are proven to be specific to the African-American female. We've identified these hurdles as:

• The adultification bias.
• The criminalization of Black girls.
• The strong Black woman schema.

At TCI, we don't expect mentors to be perfect. The main components that make a great mentor with us are:

- Commitment. Our mentors will physically meet with their mentees 1x a month and have biweekly "touch base" contacts. They will also participate in and attend two excursions. Being a mentor with us is a year commitment with the option to renew for another additional year.

- Open-mindedness and the willingness to continually listen, ask questions, learn and grow. Our mentors should understand and align with our missions and core values. A TCI mentor is self-aware enough to know that they don't know everything but are willing to learn. They are eager to share their wisdom and expertise and actively listen to and learn from TCI staff, their mentee, and other mentors and other mentees.

With that in mind, as a first step, we want to get to know you and what you would bring to the mentor role! Any information collected by The Collective Identity Mentoring is confidential and will only be shared with The Collective Identity Board of Directors. If you are selected, we will also use this application's information to match the mentor to a mentee.
