The Richmond Area Chapter of VSLA will sponsor TWO Parents as Readers Grants this year. Grants ($300.00 each) will be awarded to one elementary school and one secondary school (MS or HS).  Applicants will propose a creative idea for engaging parents in a meaningful, purposeful, and collaborative literacy experience or event which will be funded (or partially funded) by the VSLA RAC Parents as Readers Grant. Students and staff members may also be included in the literacy event/experience provided to parents.

Requirements :

● At least one staff member at the school must be a CURRENT VSLA RAC member.

● The engaging literacy experience/event must be targeted to the parents of students who are enrolled at the school. Students and staff members of the school may  be invited to participate in the engaging literacy experience/event. The literacy experience/event may include parents of a select grade level or class. Or the experience/event may be extended to all parents of students enrolled at the school. Ideas include but are not limited to: book clubs, a family literacy engagement event, parent literacy workshops, etc.

● The Parents as Readers Grant application must include an itemized list of proposed expenses. Please note that grant funds will be dispersed to the school or in the form of reimbursement upon submission of receipts.

● The proprosed literacy experience/event for parents must take place in the spring of 2022, summer of 2022, or fall of 2022.

● Recipients of the VSLA RAC Parents as Readers Grant will be asked to submit the date(s) of the parent literacy experience/event in advance. A summary of the experience/event must be submitted once it has taken place. Photographs of the experience/event may be included with the summary.
