Kaleid Contemplative: The Shema and The Prayer of Examen
When and Where? January 12, 19, and 26th, 6:30 - 7:15 am via zoom

Deuteronomy 6:4-9 (NRSV) says, "Hear, O Israel: The Lord is our God, the Lord alone.  You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your might. Keep these words that I am commanding you today in your heart. Recite them to your children and talk about them when you are at home and when you are away, when you lie down and when you rise. Bind them as a sign on your hand, fix them as an emblem on your forehead,  and write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates." This scripture is the basis for the Hebrew "Shema"--a prayer that the faithful offer twice a day, morning and evening.

In this circle, we will spend some time focusing on The Shema and connecting it to our hearts by way St. Ignatius of Loyola's Prayer of Examen. The Examen is a simple prayer practice that brings God into conversation with our recollection of the last 24 hours, where we invite the Holy Spirit to remind us of God's presence by way of gratitude, and by reflecting on what Ignatius terms "consolations and desolations."

The Shema is a simple prayer and Examen is a simple prayer practice. We look forward to connecting the two and discovering the riches of both of them as we open ourselves to God's life in this new year.

You will receive more details, including the zoom link, via email by January 11th.

This Kaleid Circle is FREE! So, invite a friend or two along! We'd love to have them. We will be so glad to be together!

As always, come just as you are! Pajamas, bed head, coffee, and work clothes are all welcome!
