Introduction and Purpose
  • Denton ISD, as part of its Mission and Vision, seeks to empower learners and leaders to positively impact the world. The purpose of Esports is to provide opportunities for ALL students to have a platform to acquire critical communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills needed to thrive in work and in life.

Participation in Esports is an extension of the regular curricular programming at Denton Independent School District (“Denton ISD,” “DISD,” or “District”). While the regular curricular programming is a right afforded to each student, participation in Esports is a privilege and students are to be held to a higher standard. The administration and staff of Denton ISD have the authority to suspend or revoke the privilege of participation in Esports when the rules, regulations, or standards of the athletic program are not followed. All DISD Esports players are expected to adhere to the following:

All athletes must exemplify good citizenship in both school and community and are subject to suspension and dismissal if behavior warrants such action. Such behavior includes any which reflects unfavorably on the school, the team, the coach or the students, and/or which results in school suspension or criminal penalty or indictment. This includes, but is not limited to the following: cheating, defiance, disrespect of persons and/or property, class disruption, and possession of unauthorized or stolen property.

The following violations may also result in suspension or dismissal from the Program:

    1. Using illegal drugs, alcohol, or tobacco at any time.
    2. Missing practice (unless excused by the Coach).
    3. Skipping class or school.
    4. Poor sportsmanship
    5. Failing grades
    6. Harassment (verbal/physical/sexual/etc.) of another student or team member.
    7. Any act (either in school or away from school) which in the opinion of the coaching and/or school administration, reflects in a negative manner on the Esports Program.
    8. Electronic communication (text, Facebook, Twitter, Discord, in game chat etc.) should be positive and should never negatively reflect on other teammates or coaching staff. If it is not positive don’t post it.

All Esports athletes must meet school academic eligibility requirements and attendance regulations. Grade checks will be performed throughout the season.
