GAPP is an Indigenous centered Collaborative and Cultural Workforce and Study Group committed to closing the gaps across the continuum of perinatal care services among our diverse Indigenous and Hispanohablante communities on Gabrieleno-Tongva Lands/California, City of Los Angeles and beyond. We are a growing community of Guardians of Ancestral Birth and Lactation seeking to increase personal and collective capacities for serving Indigenous-reconnecting, Indigenous-migrant and Latinx/Hispanohablante perinatal and childbearing populations in hospital and community settings. GAPP Collaborative and Chichihualtia Perinatal & Family Wellness are projects that have sprouted from an Indigenous Lineage-Health Initiative focused on cultivating values of self-determination and ushering the restoration of cultural legacies that support and sustain ancestral birth, lactation and family wellness practices to improve generational health outcomes among Indigenous and Hispanohablante communities. GAPP Collaborative is committed to addressing systemic barriers (such as factors of acculturation and assimilation and access to culturally and linguistically appropriate care) to optimal birth and lactation outcomes among Indigenous-reconnecting, Indigenous migrant and Latinx/Hispanohablante perinatal and childbearing people in the City of Los Angeles through the collective revitalization and preservation of lineage/ancestral birth and lactation legacies and traditional paradigms.
