Handy Helpers are a pool of Queen’s student volunteers responding to community-identified needs through one-off/short-term volunteering activities with resident associations, community groups and charitable/voluntary organisations.
Organisations can request the assistance of our group of Handy Helpers for one-off group volunteering activities such as (this list is not exhaustive):
•
Event Support
•
Admin
•
Gardening/Conservation
•
Painting
•
Holiday decoration
•
Clear-outs/Donations sorting
•
Litter-picks
•
Social activities with beneficiaries (e.g. bingo games)
Etc...
We are unable to consider:
•
Bucket collections
•
Bag packs
•
Regulated activities (volunteers not Access NI checked)
•
Activities without organisational support on the day (Queen’s SU staff member may not be present during the activity)
If you decide to host a group of Handy Helpers for your activity, we expect that you will:
•
Ensure that students have clearly defined roles and tasks to complete.
•
Greet students on the day and brief them about the activity and any safety considerations.
•
Ensure that there is an assigned volunteer coordinator that students can turn to should any questions/issues arise during the activity.
•
Provide appropriate equipment, if necessary.
•
Reimburse travel expenses, where possible.*
*We may be able to provide transport for our volunteers if the activity takes place outside of the University area. Please contact

To fit in with our marketing schedule we need at least 2 weeks’ notice in order to successfully promote your volunteering opportunity.
We aim to respond to your activity request within 5 working days.
