Mr. Shaw's Science Challenge
A food chain is the transfer of energy through an ecosystem. When you eat you are getting energy from whatever you consumed. A consumer is an animal that needs to eat to get energy. Consumers can be herbivores, carnivores, or omnivores. Herbivores eat only plants, carnivores only eat meat, omnivores eat both.
Plants, however, don't eat to get energy. They can make their own food from the sunlight, water, and carbon dioxide.
If animals are called consumers what are plants called in the food chain?
