School Year 2020-2021 Delivery of Instruction
Aloha Rainbows,
The Department of Education is working closely with state and federal health officials to safely reopen campuses for the 2020-21 school year. The Hawaii Department of Education allowed each school to choose from 3 models. Given our campus and classroom sizes and number of students and staff at our school, Kanoelani selected K-1 coming daily and 2-6 operating on a rotational basis. This model would best suit our students' academic and physical safety needs. Our number one priority is to ensure we reopen carefully and minimize health risks.
These are the parameters of our reopening:
- K-1 students will attend school daily
- K-6 SPED and ELL students will attend school daily
- Grades 2-6 will attend on a rotational basis calendar to be sent home and posted on school website).
-Groupings will be based on last names (A-K and L-M)
-One group will be on campus while the other group will be at home (working on packets, online
programs independently and occasional/virtual check ins)
- There will be staggered start and end times (ex. some students arrive at 7:45am and some arrive at 7:55am)
- Everyone will be practicing 6 ft distancing '
- Everyone will be expected to wear masks/face shields
We understand this schedule also has impact on your family schedules and child care. In preparation for the start of the school year, we would like to gather input on how this will impact your child. Please complete this brief survey by July 13. ONE SURVEY ENTRY PER STUDENT IN YOUR HOUSEHOLD. Your input is valuable and will guide our school as we plan for the safe return of our students and staff.
