I have created a guide for Chinese adoptees who were adopted internationally on how to replace adoption and identity documents in the event that they are misplaced, destroyed or deliberately withheld. I am looking for input from adoptees or adoptive parents who have experience with trying to replace adoption documents and what your experience was like to improve the guide.
Information that will NOT be included in the guide:
- Individuals' names and personal identifying information
- Individuals' emails and/or other contact information
- Names of individual adoption agencies
- Individual unique anecdotes (this is meant to be a generic guide for Chinese adoptees)
Information that may be included in the guide:
- Type of document(s) needing to be replaced
- Length of time the process took
- Cost of replacing documents
- What government authorities (federal/state/provincial) you contacted (includes Chinese authorities)
- Contact information of an organization/department (NOT an individual)
- Names/titles of forms you may have used
- Types of supporting documents you may have had to submit as part of an application
Please do NOT include sensitive information like ID numbers. For more information, contact
