After months of planning, the Evergreen Initiative is now offering classes in a wide variety of classes for the Spring 2021 Session. These are FREE Courses taught by experienced high-school teachers.

Each class has its own registration form. Filling out the form for one class will only register your child for that class.

Course Information
Class Dates:
Every Friday afternoon 3:00 to 4:00 PM from Jan 29 to Apr 30
There is no class on Feb 19 (Winter break) and Apr 2 (Spring break)

Course Description:
This course aims to introduce students to the world of algorithms and help students develop better problem-solving skills. Throughout this course, students will be exposed to various standard algorithms, such as binary search, recursion, bubble sort, and much more. Students will also be completing many fun projects, such as making a word search solver, implementing Nim's game, and even creating a computer program undefeatable at the game of tic-tac-toe. As a final project, students will create a computer program that plays the game of Connect Four.

Goals of the Course:
 Develop proficient problem solving skills.
Be able to formalize general problems and come up with algorithmic solutions.

Required Materials:
Computer (with a proper IDE installed on it), Wifi connection

Teacher’s bio:
Dougy Ouyang is a junior at Evergreen Valley High School. He has been interested in computer science and programming since 7th grade. He was a two-time USA Computing Olympiad (USACO) finalist and worked as a TA for the USACO Platinum level course at AlphaStar Academy over the summer. In addition to coding, Dougy also enjoys listening to music and playing the clarinet.
