FOUNDATIONS ON MUSIC THERAPY ASSESSMENT
Presentation of the course


This course aims to offer an essential and practical overview of music therapy assessment so that music therapists and music therapy students can have access to basic knowledge of this topic. Also, this course seeks to provide foundations to help readers understand the essential elements of music therapy assessment. It is organized based on the four stages of the assessment process: preparation, data gathering, analysis and interpretation of data, and documentation and communication of data/results of an assessment. Each part addresses themes related to each of these four stages. It also has a part that helps introduce music therapy assessment, starting from its foundations, and a part with complementary subjects that offer relevant themes related to music therapy assessment, focusing on the four stages of the assessment process. Given that this course is an overview of the music therapy assessment topic worldwide, it does not bring in-depth discussions.

Schedule

15 and 16 October 2022. The course starts at 09:00 and runs until 16:30 each day. There is a lunch break from 12:00 until 13:30.


Facilitator

Gustavo Schulz Gattino, PhD, is a music therapist and Associate Professor in the Department of Communication and Psychology at Aalborg University (Denmark). He is a teacher in the same university's Bachelor's, Master and PhD music therapy programs. He is accredited as a music therapist by the Portuguese Association of Music Therapy (APMT) and the country representative of Denmark in the European Music Therapy Confederation (EMTC). Dr Gattino is the editor of the Portuguese Journal of Music Therapy (RPM). He is a member of the International Music Therapy Assessment Consortium (IMTAC) and also a member of the Publications Commission of the World Federation of Music Therapy (WFMT) [gattino@hum.aau.dk]
