Playful Poetry Club registration of Interest

Throughout the semester we will be offering several workshops as part of the poetry club events. During these workshops you will be engaged with others in playful low stake games involving a form of poetry in Italian or German, depending on the language you are learning. You will have opportunities to engage creatively with language, so that you can develop a sense of comfort and belonging, express emotions, and connect with others locally and globally. Our poetry club is a safe space for all.

There are numerous forms and genres of poetry including songs, slam poetry, free verse, haiku, rhymed poetry, and acrostic poetry, (digital) collage poetry among others. Although poetry is a verbal art, it is inherently multimodal, combining sounds, rhythms, visual displays, and movement.

So  Who is/can be/will be a poet?

Anyone who is…

1. engaged in creating poetry – without any requirements for previous knowledge or experience;

2. Interested in experimenting with German or Italian to create multimodal poetry; (depending which one you are learning)

3. learning a new language and is up for playing with the sounds, structures, feelings, and rhythms that different languages offer

4.open to co-creating a non-judgemental community of language learners.

We will provide coffee and some snacks while you play with language and poetry together.

Please check with your instructor to learn about the extra credit opportunity for attending these events.
