Officer Qualifications
The qualifications for group officers shall not be waived. Group membership requirements cannot be waived for any position.
- Must have one year (1) of continuous sobriety for Chair and Vice Chair, Treasurer and Secretary.
- Must maintain sobriety.
- Must be active group member for at least one (1) year in group affairs, and have previous service
experience.
- Knowledge of, or willingness to learn, and practice the Twelve Traditions of SAA and the basics of
Robert’s Rules of Order.
- Term of Service: 2022. Descriptions

● Chairperson
○ Shall preside at all business meetings
○ May substitute for other group officers as needed
○ Help coordinate group activities
○ Maintain relations between the group and the community in carrying out group
conscience.
○ Serve as liaison between all outside groups and entities Shall ensure all appropriate tax
forms and corporation fillings are submitted properly.
○ Shall have a Banking signature.
○ Ensure all group activities support carrying the SAA message via the Twelve Traditions.
○ Follow up on officers and chairs absent from monthly business meetings.
○ Responsible to contact Landlord as needed in cooperation with Facilities Chair.

● Vice-chairperson
○ Shall attend or be represented at all business meetings. Serve on other committees.
○ Preside at business meetings in absence of Chairperson. Standing membership in all
Chair committees and serve in that capacity
○ Shall have a Banking signature.
○ Ensure all group activities support carrying the SAA message via the Twelve Traditions.
○ Shall serve as parliamentarian for group business meetings. Shall serve as the associate
treasurer, auditing, and reviewing financial transactions and assumes treasurer
responsibilities in case of an emergency.
○ Follow up on officers and chairs absent from monthly business meetings (in cooperation
with the Chairperson)

● Treasurer
○ Shall attend or be represented at all business meetings. Collect and deposit all
contributions promptly.
○ Pay all group obligations in a timely manner.
○ Maintain a daily record of contributions received at each meeting. Maintain a
permanent record of group finances.
○ Submit a written financial report at each monthly business meeting. Report will include
an itemization of revenue sources and a listing of expenditures.
○ Shall manage all San Jose SAA bank accounts, including but not limited to opening, closing, transfers and balancing of said accounts. Notify group chairperson or group secretary at any time duties cannot be handled properly or promptly.
○ Preside at business meetings in absence of Chairperson and Vice Chairperson.
○ Shall have a banking signature.
○ Ensure all group activities support carrying the SAA message via the Twelve Traditions.

● Secretary
○ Shall attend or be represented at all business meetings. Record minutes of all business
meetings.
○ Post minutes of previous month’s meeting no later than seven (7) days after the
business meeting with Treasurer’s report.
○ Maintain a file of all previous group records and minutes, including the groups Articles
of Incorporation
○ Post election nomination sheets. (annually, November) Prepare agenda for business
meetings making agenda open and available prior to seven (7) days before the business meeting. [No new agenda items shall be added to the agenda in the seven (7) days preceding the business meeting.] See 2.4.2, Agenda Publication. Appoint a substitute to record minutes if unable to attend any business meeting.
○ Preside at business meetings in absence of Chairperson, Vice Chairperson and Treasurer.
○ Ensure all group activities support carrying the SAA message via the Twelve Traditions.


Chair Qualifications
Facilities, Intergroup Representative, Chips & Literature, Meetings, Activities, Hospitals and Institutions, Online Presence, Communications & Audio Review

To waive qualifications for other chairs, a majority vote is required by group members present at the time of said vote.  Group membership requirements cannot be waived for any position.
- Six (6) months continuous sobriety for all chairs.
- Must maintain sobriety.
- Must be active group member for at least one (1) year in group affairs.
- Term of Service:  One (1) year beginning on the first day of the month following the election.

Chair Positions & Descriptions:

● Facilities Chair
○ Shall attend or be represented at all business meetings.
○ Perform regular maintenance for the facilities and provide/coordinate handyperson services.
○ Purchase maintenance and housekeeping supplies for the group, as required.
○ Monitor usage and re-supply, as needed.
○ Turn in receipts and take advances as required from the group Treasurer each month.
○ Delegation of service opportunities to other group members is encouraged.
○ May contact Landlord as needed in cooperation with Chairperson.

● Group Service Representative (GSR)
○ Shall attend or be represented at all business meetings.
○ Represent the group at the Intergroup level, monthly Intergroup meetings, etc.
○ Acts as a liaison between the group and Intergroup, and maintains the group registration and information with the Intergroup.
○ Shall report on all information received from the Intergroup.
○ Shall act as liaison between the group and the International Service Organization of SAA.
○ Shall report on all information revived from the ISO of SAA.
○ Delegation of service opportunities to other group members is encouraged.
○ Preside at business meetings in the absence of Chairperson, Vice Chairperson, Treasurer, and Secretary.
○ Ensure all group activities support carrying the SAA message via the Twelve Traditions.

● Chips & Literature Chair
○ Shall attend or be represented at all business meetings.
○ Be aware of all materials available from the ISO.
○ Maintain an adequate supply of materials that best fit the group’s needs, at all times including literature and chips.
○ Maintain financial records (related to Literature and Chips) in cooperation with the group treasurer.
○ Delegation of service opportunities to other group members is encouraged.

● Meetings Chair
○ Shall attend or be represented at all business meetings.
○ Review all applications for new meetings utilizing the new meetings request form (or following other designated procedures).
○ May approve and implement new meetings as warranted, including new telemeetings, while adhering to the meeting request process.  
○ Maintain meeting scripts, handouts, books and other supplies.
○ Maintains current meetings list (on the board in the room) and communicate current meetings to the Online Presence Chair.
○ Conduct annual meeting inventories (see ISO literature).
○ Delegation of service opportunities to other group members is encouraged.

● Activities Chair
○ Shall attend or be represented at all business meetings.
○ Plan group activities:  social, learning, group level.
○ Group activities should enhance interaction among participants from various San Jose Group meetings.
○ Foster an environment which promotes the Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions of SAA.
○ Work to attract attendees and encourage attendance by other SAA groups for Activities planned events.
○ Delegation of service opportunities to other group members is encouraged.

● Hospitals and Institutions Chair
○ Shall attend or be represented at all business meetings.
○ Act as liaison between the group and any outside interests where we may help the addict who still suffers.
○ Plan and schedule meetings and activities with these outside interests.
○ Encourage active participation by members in these events.
○ Assist any member in attaining needed paperwork or certification.
○ Foster an environment which promotes the Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions of SAA.

● Online Presence Chair
○ Shall attend or be represented at all business meetings.
○ Manage the San Jose Group website and any other websites the Group Conscience agrees on.
○ Update the San Jose website in a timely manner when changes are decided upon by the Group Conscience.
○ Keep the group informed on the status of websites as needed.
○ Ensure all online activities support carrying the SAA message via the Twelve Traditions.

● Communications Chair
○ Shall attend or be represented at all business meetings.
○ Respond to emails, San Jose phone number, and other general communications for the Group.
○ Keep the Group informed about the various communications as needed.
○ Ensure all communications support carrying the SAA message via the Twelve Traditions.

● Audio Review Chair
○ Shall attend or be represented at all business meetings.
○ Shall attend and record all speaker events, or designate another member to do so.
○ Shall edit recordings in accordance with Group Conscience and the 12 Steps and 12 Traditions of SAA.
○ Delegation of service opportunities to other group members is encouraged.
○ Coordinate with Online Presence to post approved recordings to the group website.
○ Record and maintain all documentation related to Audio Review, including release forms and any waivers required.
