Thank you for your interest in participating in focus groups to discuss barriers faced by geoscientists with disabilities and chronic illness as they progress from university and through professional roles. These focus groups are the first outreach activity in the recently-funded Planning Grant (NSF Award #2228095), From Classroom to Career: Building a Culture of Access for Geoscientists with Disabilities, funded through the NSF Cultural Transformation in the Geoscience Community initiative. This grant explores the experiences of disabled geoscientists in the workforce and in higher education, with the goal of explicitly identifying barriers for participation in geoscience professions by scientists with disabilities, and developing potential solutions to some of these barriers. The discussions had during these focus groups will inform the design of a nation-wide survey in the second half of 2023 and feed into a workshop in 2024 that will help transform these discussions into future actions for change.
Access services, including CART or ASL interpreters will be available for focus groups. Please let us know what specific access needs you have for participating in a 1-2 hour zoom call.
Please note that filling out this recruitment survey does not guarantee you a spot in one of these focus groups. We want to ensure that the focus groups are representative of a wide diversity of identity and experiences. We thank you for being willing to participate.
