Merrill Youth Hockey has various volunteer positions and utilizes many committees throughout the year to accomplish our goals and keep our association running. These positions have primarily been made up of current or former board members, however, we are trying to extend our reach and tap into our awesome membership base and beyond. Please read through the volunteer and committee positions and their descriptions and indicate which volunteer opportunities you would be interested in helping out with.

Volunteer Positions - Below are minimal descriptions for the available positions.

Check any or all that you wish to be considered for:

Alcohol & Liquor License Coordinator - Responsible for maintaining alcohol licensing and ensuring licensed bartenders are available for any event on-site or off-site are properly staffed.

Director of Hockey - Responsible for supporting the efforts of the USA Hockey American Development Model by assisting head and assistant coaches within an association to successfully implement ADM best practices.

Game Scheduler - Responsible for scheduling all games within the organizations for all levels of play. This includes helping with ice scheduling for tournaments and ensuring games time and changes are communicated to the City and the Referee Scheduler.

Referee Scheduler - Responsible for scheduling qualified referees for all games. Responsible for supervision of current officials and recruitment and retention of officials.

Registrar - Responsible for helping with online registration. Makes sure coaches have their coaching card, coaching certificates, and background checks. This position is also responsible to supply any necessary information to WAHA and also email rosters to coaches and team managers.

Tournament Director - Responsible for the supervision of all home tournaments including any invitational and state tournaments.

Website Manager - Responsible for maintaining the MYHA website. Responsible for granting access and permissions to specific website pages based upon individual roles within the association.

Committees - Each committee will consist of a minimum of 3 members including a chairperson. The chair is responsible for coordinating meetings & possible events and reporting directly back to the board. If interested, volunteers are eligible to serve on multiple committees.

Fundraising Committee - Chair - Sarah Brooks

Responsible for all fundraising aspects of Merrill Hockey including Hockey Cards, Raffle tickets, the Golf Outing, and other opportunities that may arise.

Disciplinary Committee - Chair - Vacant

Responsible for hearing and ruling on complaints and taking appropriate action against any members for violations MYHA rules or for any conduct detrimental to amateur hockey.

Hockey Development Committee - Chair - Director of Hockey - Bryan Weckwerth

Responsible for submitting all policy recommendations to the board concerning coaching philosophy, hockey training materials and equipment, and team selections. Should consist of the Director of Hockey, the Equipment manager, and coaches from the youth group.

Recruiting Committee - Co-Chairs - Marcy Smith & Kaili Schaupp

Responsible for coordinating efforts to recruit new players and retain current players and families.

Equipment Committee - Chair - Shawn Hagenbucher

Responsible for ordering and maintaining a record of all equipment purchased by MYHA. The committee shall be responsible for maintaining and distributing equipment for use by current players.

Fundraising Committee - Chair - Sarah Brooks

This committee shall direct the work of securing the necessary funds to maintain programs of the MYHA. The committee shall maintain records, direct mailings, and acknowledge receipts from all donors. This committee shall work with team managers at each level to coordinate tournament fundraising.

Learn to Skate Committee - Chair - Vacant

Responsible for working with the Ice Reflections Figure Skating Club and the City of Merrill each season. Responsible for securing coaches and helping with equipment needs. Will work with Director of Hockey & recruiting committee to setup and run USA Hockey Try Hockey for Free events.

Responsible for the consideration, introduction and interpretation of proposed rule changes or amendments to the By-Laws.

Tournament Committee - Chair - Vacant

Responsible for all aspects of hosting invitational and State tournament games. Will work with Tournament Director, fundraising committee to establish raffles, will work with game and referee schedulers among other various entities.
