OneGeneration serves individuals and families in need in the San Fernando Valley of Los Angeles by providing food, clothing, medical, vocational training assistance, and other essential services. Their goal is to sustain people in desperate circumstances, ultimately empowering them to achieve independence.

OneGeneration is in need of volunteers who can assist with wellness check phone calls to seniors who regularly visit their clinic and food pantry. The objective is to reach out to these patients to assess their social determinants of health, particularly during a time when many have lost touch with the center because of Covid-19 regulations. In this campaign, these patients will receive texts from OneGeneration, in collaboration with CovidSMS, in order to assess their resource accessibility. These texts will be followed up by over-the-phone wellness checks, which will consist of asking a series of questions to the client regarding their needs and the ways in which the OneGeneration can help them. We will also be asking questions regarding the ways through which they receive information and assessing if SMS is a viable form of communication for this population. Volunteers can either choose to participate in calling patients, or join the resource team that researches open needs specific to each patient, or both!

This program will be completely remote and have a low time commitment of 1-2 hours per week. Please note that calls can only be made from 12pm-3pm PST (3-6pm EST), so applicants must be available during that time to complete their calls (weekday preference is flexible and up to you).

Our training session will be held remotely on Tuesday, 2/2/21 from 2pm-3pm PST (5pm-6pm EST). If you have been accepted to work with this cohort of clients, you will be contacted by Friday, 1/29/21 with more details regarding the training.
