Learning wrap up and start of review!
If you were a millionaire today, what would you do?
Why is it embarrassing to try?
Today's video is from the Tennessee coach talking about how he talks about water.  I want you to be in a place now where you "get it" with what he's saying.  This video is 24 minutes long so it's the only one today, but it's really meaty.  I want you to really try to understand what he's saying.
We are always trying to get better, always evolving.  He talks about "sprinting" really as "racing," no matter how long the race is, you get out there and sprint.  Whatever race you swim, you sprint.  Tell me about your "main" race, just pick one, and what sprinting means for that race, and a time when you actually DIDN'T sprint that race.
Tell me about "impulses" and "spaces."
Why does he not really use the word "pull" when he talks about the arm cycle of a stroke? (and I agree, I don't like that word to describe what we're doing either.)
How can we get the most out of moving forward not only in the impulses but in the spaces between them?
How can you create an impulse when you're doing your recovery?  Tell me how you would do that in all 4 strokes (he talks specifically about Freestyle), how do you generate propulsion when your arms are ABOVE the water?
Tell me about stringing together impulses and spaces in a rhythmic fashion rather than mechanically, tell me about how that feels?
What does he mean "it doesn't matter how you feel" but "it really matters how it feels"?
Can you tell the difference between "moving fast" and "trying hard"?  Because they truly are not the same thing.
"Springy" "Rhythmic"  "Elastic"  "Connected" Tell me how you feel the stretch and release when you're going FAST?  It's up to the athlete to tune into that, do you understand what he's talking about?
He talks about not bringing your elbow behind your shoulders , we talk about staying under the airplane wings, same concept.  Tell me about the width of your recovery (and how triangular your recovery is) in relation to how well you can utilize the power from your hips in your Freestyle?
How does your posture contribute or take away from your speed?
How does being able to slow down and do the movements properly help you be able to go fast when you put energy into the system?
There's something to be said for giving some space to the ladies, my friend's team has single gender practices on her team a couple times a week.  How would you feel about having a practice or two a week where it's just gals or just guys?  Or just your age group (bigs together, middles together, youngs together)?
He talks a lot about feedback with the resistance tools he uses.  What is he hoping his swimmers are processing and learning from the feedback of resistance?
Matt thinks trusting his athletes is really important, how do you think his athletes earn his trust?
Why does Matt ultimately want ownership and responsibility from his athletes, why does he think that matters so much to high performance?
