2022-23 Island Lake Elementary Orchestra Information and Registration
Welcome to orchestra! We're excited to get started with making beautiful music this year. All students in 4th and 5th grade are invited to participate!

The Mounds View Elementary Orchestra Program is structured with weekly large-group rehearsals (all instruments before school), and small group lessons (by instrument) at school during the school day. Small group lessons will be scheduled in the middle of September and  Large group rehearsals take place in 
Room 148 BEFORE school except when school is not in session:

*4TH GRADE LARGE GROUP is on Thursdays at 8:05-9:05 AM, begins September 15 for Summer Beginners,
    Fall Beginners will have Large Group Lessons on Fridays beginning on September 23.

*5TH GRADE LARGE GROUP is on Wednesdays from 8:05-9:05 AM, begins September 14**

     **If your child is entering 5th grade and does not have previous orchestra experience, they will begin with small group instruction and will join 5th grade orchestra large group rehearsals at a later date.

Along with orchestra lessons and rehearsals, there are evening and school day concerts which highlight the growth of the students in the winter and spring each year. (Concerts are subject to change if COVID recommendations change.)  More information can be found on the Island Lake Orchestra Website: https://www.moundsviewschools.org/vig.juli 

Playing in orchestra is a very fun, challenging, and rewarding experience; the skills they learn now, can truly last a lifetime! To register your child, simply complete all sections of this Google Form by SEPTEMBER 16TH!

A note from our district's Transportation Office about large instruments on regular district bus routes (cellos/basses):
"It is district policy that band/orchestra instruments that will be allowed on the bus are those that can be safely carried in a bag and/or are small enough to be held on the student’s lap. Instruments may not block the aisle; nor interfere with the space or take the place of another student.  While a flute or violin is small enough to fit these guidelines, a Cello or French horn will not.  Some other examples of instruments considered too large to transport include (but not limited to):  drums, tuba, bass, trombones, guitars, etc.
 
Parents are encouraged to transport larger items in their own vehicles.  If the above guidelines, for transporting musical instruments, creates a hardship for your family please contact the Transportation Office at (651) 621-6027."

This pertains to regular busing only, not orchestra specific events such as field trips or shuttle rides with all Orchestra members on board.
