Rebecca Martinez Fitzgerald, LCSWA and Leah Caminker, LCMHCA will co-facilitate an online support group to help estranged adult children find connection and community, explore their personal values and learn more about setting, holding and adjusting healthy boundaries.

What this is and who it's for:

8-week virtual support group (participants commit to attending at least 6 of the 8 weeks)
Fridays from noon-1:30 from September 30 to November 18
Facilitators intend to host an in-person gathering in Durham for the final session.
The fee is $40 per session, billed before group commences in September. (A few sliding-scale rates and a scholarship are available, so please reach out if cost is a barrier.)

This is a psychoeducational support group, not group therapy. Expect to learn about and participate in group discussions about:

attachment
rupture and repair
values and assertive communication
acceptance and coping with discomfort
ambivalence and grief

Participants must be 18 years or older, live in North Carolina, be able to verbally communicate in English, and have an established relationship with an individual therapist. (This group is not a substitute for psychotherapy and does not initiate a therapeutic relationship.) Group members agree to attend at least 6 of the 8 group sessions. Group members agree to respect the values of anti-racism, body-neutrality, and welcoming inclusion of LGBTQ+, BIPOC and disabled folks.

Who it's not for:

Parents struggling with estrangement from adult children
People who do not have an individual therapist
People unwilling to consider or tolerate the potential appropriateness of a no-contact relationship with a parent for themselves or others
People who anticipate more than two absences from group
People who are unwilling or unable to listen and share with others or respect the group's values

The full fee for group participation is $40 per session for 8 sessions ($320 total) due September 30th. The group fee is kept intentionally low to make this financially accessible to as many interested parties as possible, but we know this might still present a barrier for some prospective members. A few reduced-fee and scholarship spots are available for participants based on need. *
