Hi everyone,

Thank you for your interest in being a part of the Blind and Low Vision Community Committee for the 2023 festival. 

We have been working with a blind consultant for a number of years now but we want more input from the community.

Who can apply?
Anyone who is blind and has low vision, enjoys going to performances and lives in or near Vancouver. 

What will the committee do?
We will have a meeting on October 18th or 19th in person in downtown Vancouver.
Sighted guides will be available to pick you up at the Chinatown Skytrain station or a nearby bus stop.
People can also join via zoom.
At the meeting you will:
  • decide which show(s) will be live described
  • discuss how the low vision friendly shows can be made more accessible
  • share ideas on who in the local community should come to these shows and how we can reach out to them 
How do we choose the people?
We work with the Blind consultant to choose 7-10 people.

Will you be paid?
Yes you will be paid $50  (or a $50 gift card if that is easier) and  receive 2 tickets to the festival.

Why do you want to join?
We don't need an essay. Maybe you don't like the shows that are normally described, maybe you could just use $50. We appreciate honesty a lot.
Would you like to stay updated about other opportunities?
Each year we send out an email with information about all the low-vision friendly programming, sometimes we reach out with other opportunities at PuSh or another arts organization. I could be free tickets, another opportunity to be on a committee, be part of a show or be a consultant. It's nothing regular, just when it comes up, maybe 3-4 times a year.

Are you interested in being a community witness at our accessibility training?
At our accessibility training (in December and January) we teach staff and volunteers how they can support patrons who are blind or partially sighted, including basic sighted guiding. You don't need to prepare anything, just be willing to answer questions from people so they can get different perspectives and practice sighted guiding with people. Community witnesses also get paid $50.
