Thank you for applying to be a member of The Health Humanities Journal team for the Spring 2023 semester. All full-time undergraduate, graduate, and professional students at UNC are welcome to apply.   • Undergraduate Editors will serve as readers of submissions, contribute to group discussions to select pieces for publication, and attend all weekly Editorial Staff meetings. They will also serve as copy editors of the accepted submissions, which involves working with the authors and the Editor-in-Chief. They will take on additional roles as needed. Applicants should provide a sample of their written work in their application.
  • Secretary will be responsible for all communication with the staff team. They will send weekly meeting recap emails, communicate important production deadlines, and take attendance at meetings. *Applicants must also apply for the Undergraduate or Graduate Editor position.
  • Managing Editor will assist the Editor-in-Chief in managing journal operations, leading staff meetings, and overseeing semesterly production schedules. They will also serve as copy editors of the accepted submissions. Applicants should provide a sample of their written work in their application and note any previous leadership experience. *Must be an undergraduate junior or senior in Fall 2023.
  • Graduate Editors of the journal will serve as readers of submissions, contribute to group discussions to select pieces for publications, and attend weekly Editorial Staff meetings. They will also serve as copy editors and aid in outreach to medical, graduate, and professional schools. They will take on additional roles as needed. Applicants should provide a sample of their written work in their application.

  • Layout Editors will create the layout and basic graphic design of our journal using Adobe InDesign. They must also attend weekly Editorial Staff meetings. Applicants should provide a sample of work completed using Adobe InDesign in their application.
  • Podcast Editors will assist with guest interviews, audio production, and polishing of final episodes for the HHJ Podcast. Applicants should provide a sample of work highlighting their audio editing skills in their application. 
  • Art Director will contribute to group discussions to select art pieces for publication. They will work with the Editor-in-Chief to design and create the cover of the journal, create corresponding artwork for select submissions, and complete any artistic/creative designs for journal as needed. Applicants should provide an example of their work that highlights their style/medium of choice in their application.
