Whereas we, law-abiding citizens of James City County, are deeply concerned that declaring James City County as a gun sanctuary will infringe upon our rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness, endangering all who live and visit here;

And whereas Virginia's Constitution does not allow localities to exempt themselves from state law;

We urge the Board of Supervisors of James City County to continue to follow the laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia, including any new laws governing gun violence prevention and gun safety passed by the General Assembly, and vote down the measure to declare James City County as a gun sanctuary.

We further urge the James City County Board of Supervisors to support proposed common sense gun safety legislation in the 2020 General Assembly session, legislation that will reduce gun violence and make our community safer.
