Dear members of the international debate community,
In May 2023 we were able to run a week-long training for debate coaches which required no financial contribution from the participants. We are hoping this becomes a yearly event and are striving to make it as accessible as possible for anyone involved in coaching debate.
As always, we are very much interested in the opinions and suggestions from prospective participants and trainers who have experience in training coaches.
To help you with thinking of suggestions for future editions of the training, here is a list of workshop topics covered at the first edition:
- Yearly debate club planning
- Setting goals as coaches and recognizing debaters' goals
- Planning workshops - theoretical background and practice sessions
- Ethics of coaching and conflict resolution
- Debate as a tool for active citizenship and inclusion
- Giving competence-based feedback
- Introduction to existing materials and tools for teaching debate
Please feel free to suggest new workshop topics and/or specific exercises for existing and new topics.
